Rubystein: Ruby meets Wolfenstein
by gregg on May 11, 2009
At Railsconf 2009 the guys over at Phusion released Rubystein, a Wolfenstein clone written in Ruby. I managed to track down Ninh Bui to give us a video walk through, and the following video was played at Railsconf before the Wednesday Keynote.

wow rsrsrs… damn there is a good video =D
That’s incredible. Ruby CAN scale. :)
That was really nice
You sure that’s not written in Scala?
Hilarious and awesome are appropriate adjectives for such a fine piece of work! No Jason? Modding time!
What the hell is a Django Pony? How pathetic. They need DJ Ango.
Gregg, it was great seeing you and Jason again at Railsconf. As for the video, I’m truly honored that you guys have taken Rubystein into consideration for editing and display prior to the keynote. Also, I’d again like to thank you for the great sound samples you’ve provided for the protagonist. You guys truly do some amazing work with Railsenvy, Envycasts and for the Rails community and I just wanted to stop by to reiterate/emphasize this :-) See you guys again soon? I sure hope so!
Cheers, Ninh
Think you’ll find PHP is faster! http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/u32q/benchmark.php?test=all&lang=yarv&lang2=php&box=1
Wolfenstein ran on a 286… Ruby had better been able to be used.
Nice job. I was expecting a Rickroll at the end.

“1995 - Yukihiro “Mad Matz” Matsumoto creates Ruby to avert some vaguely unspecified apocalypse that will leave Australia a desert run by mohawked warriors and Tina Turner. The language is later renamed Ruby on Rails by its real inventor, David Heinemeier Hansson. [The bit about Matsumoto inventing a language called Ruby never happened and better be removed in the next revision of this article - DHH].”
The guy is right, it gives a good idea of rails people mentality and it is confirmed in this video. However, Ruby is a great language.
